Over Rs 10 crore worth jewellery burgled
Gold and diamond jewellery worth about Rs 10 crore were burgled from a leading jewellery shop in nearby Tirupur in the wee hours of today.
The burglary was noticed when the owners of Kerala-based Alukkas Jewellery opened the shop on Tuesday. It was found that 38 kgs of ornaments were stolen from the shop, police said.
The burglars have gained entry by breaking open the ventilator behind the shop using gas cutters, which were recovered from the scene of the crime.
Special teams have been formed to nab the culprits, police said.
This was the second major heist in the hosiery town during the past five months.
In September last year, 1,381 sovereign of gold ornaments were looted from Muthoot Mini Financiers, also a Kerala-based firm, in which seven persons were arrested and the booty recovered.
