Owaisi, Singhal rule out compromise formula

Sept. 23: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen president and MP from Hyderabad, Mr Asaduddin Owaisi, on Thursday, said there is no question of Muslims willing to support any sort of compromise and conciliation on the Ayodhya issue.

Responding to the stay order given by the Supreme Court on the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit verdict that was scheduled to be delivered by a bench of the Allahabad High Court on Friday, Mr Owaisi cautioned that even the Manmohan Singh government at the Centre should not give any commitment to the apex court that it would work for conciliation.

The nation has the right to know the truth and the stay order by the apex court has come as a surprise to all Muslims and is a kind of anti-climax. Muslims will accept the verdict of the court but will not accept conciliation, he said.

“It is better that the government leaves it to the court to deliver its verdict. The more the issue is delayed, the more it may lead to anger and frustration. Muslims will not accept conciliation,” he emphasised.

He said already three different Prime Ministers have tried for conciliation without any success. “We hope the Centre will not interfere in the case and will ask the solicitor-general to leave the issue to the Allahabad High Court,” he said.

Mr Owaisi and Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s Mr Ashok Singhal are for once on the same page. Mr Singhal, too, ruled out talks to resolve the dispute, expressed disappointment at the delay in pronouncing the judgement, and said the verdict of the Allahabad HC must be awaited. Disagreeing with Mr Ramesh Chandra Tripathi, who had moved the apex court to give time for reconciliation in the case, Mr Singhal said, “Some big forces are supporting him. Delay is not salutary. It will have an adverse impact.”

He said the dispute has already dragged on for over six decades and it should not be further delayed. “Whoever wins or loses, the case is bound to go to the SC,” he added.
