Pacheco arrest after discharge
Hearing the interim bail plea of “tainted” former tourism minister Mickky Pacheco, the district sessions court at Margao said on Wednesday that the Goa police could take him into custody for questioning whenever he was discharged from hospital.
Mr Pacheco, who has been charged with culpable homicide in the mysterious death of his girlfriend Nadia Torrado, had complained of chest pain and was admitted to hospital on Saturday evening, just hours after the court had rejected his bail plea following his surrender.
Mr Pacheco had been missing for nearly a month after being grilled by the Crime Branch for nine hours on June 4.
The prosecutor on Tuesday had alleged that the medical reports of the NCP MLA were dubious.
Ms Sarojini Saldanha had said that Mr Pacheco’s blood pressure was originally recorded as 150/90 but that had later been overwritten as 170/100.
She said that the doctor had recommended certain tests for Mr Pacheco and wondered how he was directly admitted to the ICU without the tests being conducted.
“In the interim bail application, there was no reference to any kind of sickness which the applicant was ailing from. So where have the sicknesses come from suddenly?” the prosecutor asked.
“The accused should be referred to a medical board as the certificates given by doctors from Hospicio hospital are suspicious. Alternatively, the medical certificates should be examined to check their veracity,” the prosecution had said.
