Pak singer misses Delhi date, blames it on visa

Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan did not keep his date with New Delhi Saturday, disappointing his fans and causing red faces among the organisers.
Rahat, the nephew of the late legendary singer Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, was to perform in the evening at the HUDA Gymkhana Club in Sector-29, Gurgaon, on the occasion o

f the “Gurgaon First Festival” organised by a media group in collaboration with other partners. The concert was called off since the singer was unable to travel to India.
The singer is understood to have been paid in excess of Rs 25 lakhs for the show but his manager called up the organisers on the eve of the show and told them that Khan would not be able to perform as he could not obtain his visa, and that a new date be considered for the show. A case has been registered at the Sector-29 Gurgaon police station against the singer and his Mumbai-based manager for breach of contract.
The organisers — Trzy Events — claimed they have had to incur monetary losses on account of the sin-ger’s non-appearance. Over 2,500 tickets for the show had been sold. The tickets were priced at Rs 2,000, Rs 1,500 and Rs 1,000. The organisers had also borne hotel, airline and promotion costs for the show.
The organisers have since confirmed that they will refund the money to all those who had bought the tickets. The ticket-holders were advised to contact their respective booking agencies. Online transactions would be directly reversed.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan co-hosts a music show on a television channel in which young boys and girls from India and Pakistan compete for the honours.
