Pakistani commandos train LeT activists; alert after Hafiz talk
New Delhi: Credible information gathered by Indian intelligence agencies has revealed that the Pakistan Army’s elite commando unit, Special Services Group (SSG), has been running a fully operational training camp in Muzaffarabad, the capital of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, for operatives of the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and Jaish-e-Mohammed.
It is learnt that militants are being trained by SSG commandos to attack Indian security outposts in the high mountainous terrain along the Line of Control and the international border.
It is suspected that militants trained at the SSG camp along with Pakistan Army regulars were involved in the attacks on Indian Army soldiers both in the Poonch and Mendhar sectors. The SSG has units specialising in high-altitude warfare.
A detailed analysis of the two incidents, in Mendhar and Poonch, by the security agencies here shows remarkable similarities, confirming that possibly the same group was involved in both. Both the home ministry and the national security adviser have been informed about the SSG training centre in PoK.
Security sources said that once trained, the militants help the Pakistan Army along the LoC to carry out recce and attacks on Indian security pickets.
The nation’s security establishment has gone into a tizzy with 26/11 mastermind and Lashkar-e-Tayyaba patron Hafiz Saeed threatening more attacks in the run-up to the Independence Day.
The nation’s capital was put on high alert after the Intelligence Bureau told the Delhi police of the possibility of terror strikes. The Red Fort is always high on the terror radar as the PM addresses the nation from its ramparts on the morning of Independence Day.
An IB report notes that Saeed made an open threat while addressing a rally in Karachi. This comes soon after the killing of five Indian soldiers along the LoC in J&K’s Poonch sector, which India has blamed on the Pakistan Army.In his open threat, Saeed said jihadis should plan to hit the Indian capital in the same way as a similar attack was carried out in 2000 at the Red Fort.
On Friday, he led the Id pr-ayers at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Hours before, Sae-ed also “tweeted” his greetings with a strong anti-India message, saying the “time is near when those oppressed in Kashmir, Palestine and Burma will celebrate Id in the air of freedom”.
