Pakistani missing after Mohali match? Police don't think so
All Pakistani cricket fans who had come to watch last month's World Cup semifinal here have gone back, say police but they are still looking into reports that one of them did not return.
Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, the senior superintendent of police, Mohali said, "So far no such incident has come to light. But still, taking no chances, I have asked one of our senior police officials to look into the matter."
Media reports say Ali Zameer, 66, a resident of Karachi, had come to India on a 15-day visa March 24. The visa was issued for visiting Mohali, Delhi and Mumbai. Ali had stayed at a hotel in Chandigarh and went missing after the India-Pakistan semifinal March 30.
"We do not have any such information about a Pakistani cricket fan not returning. According to our official records, five Pakistani fans had come to Mohali and all of them have gone back," Harpreet Singh, superintendent of police (city), told IANS.
In 2005, around 11 Pakistani fans, who had come here to watch the India-Pakistan one-day match, had gone missing.
