Pandya widow for new probe
Slain Gujarat minister Haren Pandya’s widow Jagruti on Wednesday demanded that his killing be investigated afresh, two days after the Gujarat high court dropped murder charges against all 12 accused in Pandya’s 2003 killing.
The Gujarat government, meanwhile, said the CBI should move the Supreme Court against the high court verdict.
“After eight years, I have lost patience and this judgment (on Monday) has proved the real killers of Haren (Pandya) are roaming free while some others were put behind bars and have wrongly served prison terms,” said Jagruti Pandya, making a fervent appeal to chief minister Narendra Modi for a reinvestigation.
“Narendra Modi should prove himself an ideal chief minister by ensuring the real killers are caught and punished,” she told reporters.
The state government said the CBI should appeal against the high court order to ensure that the accused are given the “strictest” punishment.
“The high court released the accused on technical grounds (from murder charges)... the CBI should take this matter to the Supreme Court,” said Jay Narayan Vyas, state minister and government spokesman.
