Panel to review facilities for amarnath yatra
A “high-powered” committee was on Friday constituted to review the currently available facilities to Amarnath pilgrims. It will also evolve “well considered” recommendations towards improving and enhancing the infrastructure for the annual pilgrimage that attracted more than half a million devotes this year.
A statement issued here said that the decision to constitute the special committee was taken at a meeting convened by Jammu and Kashmir governor N.N. Vohra, who is also the chairman of the Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB), to discuss with chief minister Omar Abdullah various important issues, relating to the management of 2012 yatra. Ministers of forest, health and tourism also attended the meeting.

Gogoi blames NSCN(I-M) for Assam violence

Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Friday said that the NSCN(I-M) was trying to create trouble in its territorial boundary by instigating violence and supporting small militant groups in North Cachar Hills. Mr Gogoi said, “I am going to ask the Centre to look into the matter and mount pressure on NSCN rebels to refrain from creating trouble in Assam. I have taken up this issue with Union home ministry in past also.” He also clarified that his government was opposed to the idea of granting general amnesty to militant leaders involved in peace talks.
