Parliament adjourned 11th day
The disruption of Parliament by the Opposition to press its demand for a JPC into the 2G spectrum allocation scam continues unabated.
Friday was the 11th consecutive day that Parliament was unable to carry out its normal business with the Opposition forcing adjournments in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha.
The two Houses did witness a few minutes of calm, but only for the duration that the presiding officers read out statements paying tribute to the victims of the Mumbai attacks two years ago. While in the Lok Sabha members observed silence after Speaker Meira Kumar had read out the statement, in the Rajya Sabha, Chairman Hamid Ansari paid tribute to the 26/11 victims.
In the Lok Sabha, newly-elected Independent MP Putul Kumari, who has won the by-election from from Banka in Bihar, took her oath as a member in Hindi. The Rajya Sabha witnessed a scuffle between DMK and AIADMK members amidst the uproar over the Opposition’s demand for a JPC probe into the 2G Spectrum allocation.
The DMK and AIADMK members clashed after K.P. Ramalingam (DMK) displayed a placard which read “Arrest Jaya for stolen land in Kodanadu estate”.
