Parties back Madhani
Thiruvananthapuram: Political parties in the state have expressed concern over Karnataka government’s move to deny bail to PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madhani who is currently lodged in Bangalore jail in connection with the serial blast case.
The prosecution opposed Madhani’s bail plea in the High Court saying he has a long criminal record, has 57 pending cases in Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, and has links with terror organisations in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
It pointed out that in the normal course, those accused in terror cases were not granted bail. The government argued that Madhani only had medical problems that people above 50 years suffer from.
Meanwhile, the Muslim League and the CPM have come out in support of Madhani with CPM politburo member M.A. Baby accusing in Karnataka government of adopting the “soft” Hindutva card.
Former MP Sebastian Paul said the government was trying to settle scores instead of dealing with the case legally.
