Parties giving tickets to corrupt maligning Parliament image, says Arvind Kejriwal
Refuting criticism that civil society members were undermining the parliamentary system, Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday alleged that the political parties giving tickets to ‘corrupt and criminals’ who are maligning the image of parliament.
Speaking at a public meeting here Saturday evening, Kejriwal said every Indian has extended support to Anna Hazare and his movement because everyone has been a victim of corruption.
He said it is not civil society members like Prashant Bhushan who have brought disrepute to parliament. It is the MPs who accept notes for votes or political parties, which give tickets to corrupt and criminals who have maligned parliament's image, he charged.
Former union law minister and key member of Team Anna, Shanti Bhushan, said no minister in the union cabinet has seen the campaigns of Mahatma Gandhi or Jayprakash Narayan.
“Hence, they are wondering how the people are coming on the streets without money and muscle power. The central government will ultimately have to bend its knees in front of emerging people's power," he said.
Eminent lawyer and Anna aide Prashant Bhushan said the present political system is exploiting the poor and Anna Hazare's campaign is not only against corruption but it is meant to bring about a bigger change in our political system.
