PC reviews CRPF’s Dantewada logistics
The operational and logistical preparedness of the CRPF was critically reviewed by home minister P. Chidambaram on Wednesday when he met the CRPF top-brass at the paramilitary forces’ headquarters here on Wednesday.
Official sources said that the report prepared by the E.N. Rammohan Committee, set up to inquire into the Dantewada massacre of security forces by the Maoists, was discussed during the meeting which lasted for nearly five hours. The CRPF is holding a court of inquiry into the Dantewada attack to identify the procedural lapses and departmental failure thereby fixing responsibility for the worst-ever Maoist attack on security forces. Sources said that the CRPF is likely to complete the inquiry in the next few days following which a report would be submitted to the home ministry. The Rammohan Committee has noted there was a ‘’leadership failure’’ besides a failure on the part of the deceased deputy commandant who was leading the CRPF team when it was attacked by the Maoists on April 6 leaving 76 personnel dead.
Meanwhile, the home ministry is believed to have raised concern over the living conditions of the CRPF jawans at the camps set up by the CRPF.
