Peace Party: Winnability only
The Peace Party in Uttar Pradesh has hit upon a unique formula to register its strong presence in the 2012 Assembly polls in the state.
The party is concentrating only on the winnability factor and is trying to woo candidates whose influence on their respective seats is undisputed and whose victory is almost certain.
These are the candidates who have been winning their seats since the past several terms but have been denied tickets by major political parties due to various reasons.
One such candidate to join the Peace party is independent MLA Akhilesh Singh from Rae Bareli. Akhilesh Singh, now the national general secretary of Peace Party, was in the Congress till 2002 when he was expelled following his alleged involvement in a murder case. Since then, Akhilesh Singh has been braving the Sonia storm in Rae Bareli to retain his seat. Peace Party lea-ders met Ateeq Ahmad, former SP MP who is presently lodged in Basti jail. Party sources admit that Ateeq Ahmad, who is now in Apna Dal after being shunned by BSP and expelled by SP, may contest the coming polls with support from Peace Party.
