‘People have lost faith in Gurung’
Trinamul Congress general secretary Mukul Roy on Sunday claimed that the people of hills have lost faith in the leadership of GJM chief Bimal Gurung even as the process began to appoint the next chief executive of Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA).
“I feel that people have lost faith in Bimal Gurung. The people of the hills are in favour of development and peace. Therefore, they will not support GJM’s movement for long. Those who are trying to create unrest in hills by stalling development will not succeed and will be rejected by these people,” Mr Roy said.
Leader of the Opposition Surya Kanta Mishra, however, said that government must take greater responsibility and put an end to the hill crisis.
Meanwhile, the Communist Party of Revolutionary Marxists (CPRM), a Gorkhaland Joint Action Committee constituent, said that it was mulling keeping educational institutions out of the stir. “We hope to exclude educational institutions out of the ambit of our stir,” CPRM spokesperson Govind Chettri said.
