Physically weak men yield to temptations easily: Pallam Raju
Naharlagun: Union Human Resource Development Minister M.M. Pallam Raju, who is on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh, has said that soccer is a sure way to achieve one’s goals in life.
Raju, leading the GoI-XI team that included Lok Sabha member Takam Sanjoy and his Officer on Special Duty Seshu Kumar, defeated the Chief Minister Nabam Tuik-led GoAP-XI team by two goals to nil in a match that was played at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium here.
Responding to a question, Raju, who had played in the famous Subroto Cup during his school days in 1978-79, subscribed to the idea of Swami Vivekananda, who once told young students in an audience that “It was their first duty to cultivate physical strength and health, You may have the Gita in your left hand, but have a football in your right.”
He also said that it was men who were physically weak that yielded to temptations easily, and that those with plenty of physical vigour and strength, were far better able to resist temptations and exercise self-control than the former.
Sanjoy would have netted half-a-dozen goals had the GoAP goal keeper Kento Modi not defended the net so ably.
The GoAP team included lawmakers and keen footballers Tapang Taloh, Padi Richo, Likha Saaya, Nido Pavitra, Ralom Borang, Bamang Felix and the chief minister’s political secretary Bamang Tago.
When asked for the reason behind the defeat, Tuki said that good teams only get defeated, while Raju jocularly pitched in to say that the chief minister was aspiring for higher fund allocation, and therefore, had to ensure that the GoI was not defeated. This evoked laughter in the gathering.
Education Minister Bosiram Siram, Chief Parliamentary Secretary TN Thongdok, Chief Secretary H K Paliwal were part of the audience.
Raju is schedueld to lay the foundation stone of state’s first national Institue of Technology at Jote near Itanagar today.
