Pilot scam: DGCA official, 3 more held
A DGCA official of the rank of assistant director and three others, including a pilot, were arrested by the Delhi police which said on Saturday that it had busted a racket to acquire pilot licences using forged documents.
The arrested DGCA official has been identified as Pradeep Kumar, 48, while the three others are Pradeep Tyagi, 35, a pilot who used to allegedly procure fake documents, and Tyagi’s associates Pankaj Jain, 23, and Lalit Jain, 34. The arrests were made in three days, starting March 23, from Delhi and Chennai. Kumar is the first DGCA official to be arrested in the fake pilot scam and this clearly indicates involvement of insiders in the DGCA.
Incidentally, Pradeep Kumar was removed as assistant director in the licensing department of the DGCA by DGCA authorities last month and is currently assistant director in the directorate of aircraft engineering. DGCA sources said he will soon be suspended from service. The Delhi police said on Saturday three other accused — identified as Swaran Singh Talwar of MDLR Airlines, as well as Syed Habib Ali, and Bhupinder Singh are on the run.
