Pinarayi differs with Buddha on VS candidacy
CPI(M) state secretary Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday sharply differed with West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee’s comment that there were initial problems about Kerala chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan’s candidacy.
Mr Bhattacharjee had said that the CPI(M) politburo had discussed the issue and had asked the Kerala unit to give Mr Achuthanandan a ticket.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Vijayan said that he did not know why such a comment was made and said there was no such instruction from the politburo.
“The name of VS was present in the list when it was readied,” he said.
The state CPI(M) had been strongly denying that it had initially decided not to field Mr Achuthanandan and had later gone back on that decision.
Mr Vijayan, however, agreed with mediapersons that the campaign trend among LDF candidates of putting up pictures of Mr Achuthanandan in their posters was a new thing.
“I have noticed this and it is a new trend,” he said.
“I cannot explain why this is happening. It may not be for projecting any one leader, but could be for spreading the message that he had headed the LDF government.”
Mr Vijayan also refused to divulge his opinion on the trend and said he would air it at the appropriate party forum.
He also justified the Chief Minister’s ‘intervention’ in the ice-cream parlour case involving Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) leader P.K. Kunhalikutty and said that it did not mean that he mistrusted the police.
