PM admits to his failure: BJP
The main Opposition BJP on Saturday claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accepted the Opposition’s charge that his government has failed on the corruption and inflation front by admitting that both were a problem. The party cautioned that if timely action is not taken, India can witness Egypt-like agitation.
The party’s national spokesperson Tarun Vijay said, “For the first time he has accepted that there is corruption and the people are very, very angry with this kind of governance.
The time will not be very far away when angry, frustrated and driven to the wall, people of India will create a bigger and more aggressive agitation against the desi Hosni Mubarak than what we see in Cairo today.”
The BJP leader however, insisted that the Prime Minister’s “anguish” makes no sense now.
Mr Vijay contended that by accepting that inflation and corruption were a problem, the “chief executive” has accepted the charges levelled against him by the BJP and the Opposition.
“Was he talking to people from Mars or Saturn or to the people of India? Was it an acceptance or an apology for not being able to do what the people had expected of him in the last six-and-a-half years” Mr Vijay asked.
The party also alleged that the manner in which names of those having black money in tax havens abroad are being “withheld” and efforts are being made to “shield” former telecom minister A. Raja shows the government has taken up “consultancy or advocacy services” for the corrupt.

‘It’s politics of obscurantism’

New Delhi
Feb. 5: The Congress on Saturday reacted sharply to the BJP’s criticism of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh over the issue of black money saying that the main Opposition party has become “bankrupt” of ideas and was indulging in “politics of obscurantism”.
“They have no issues on which they can attack the government. So they are indulging in politics of obscurantism and making wild allegations. It has become totally bankrupt of ideas,” party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan told reporters. She was reacting to the contention of BJP spokesperson Tarun Vijay.
