PM, Jaya may discuss dam, n-plant today
The Mullaperiyar dam row with Kerala and the stalemate over Koodankulam nuclear power plant could figure at the meeting chief minister J. Jayalalithaa is expected to have with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his two-day visit to the Tamil Nadu beginning Sunday.
She is likely to take up several other issues, such as her pending demand for a Central financial package when she calls on the PM in the evening shortly after his arrival by a special aircraft, his first trip after her AIADMK stormed to power ousting the DMK, a key UPA constituent, in state polls in April.
Though the state government did not issue any statement to confirm the PM-CM meeting, official sources believed that Ms Jayalalithaa would not let the opportunity go notwithstanding her disappointment over the silence adopted by the PMO to her four letters on the row over the 116-year-old dam. Archrival M. Karunanidhi has issued a statement that he would meet the PM on Monday morning and discuss the dam issue. Besides, Kerala CM Oommen Chandy had taken a delegation to pressure the PM in Delhi on this issue.
