The second phase at a cost of Rs 109 crores will include extending and strengthening the existing runway. The AAI is seeking funding from the Planning Commission.
Meanwhile, civil aviation minister Praful Patel also announced that the modernisation of the Kolkata and Chennai airports would be completed by the AAI by next year.
