PM may raise Jammu in Sharif talks
The audacious terror attacks in Jammu, which has claimed 10 lives, and the continuing infiltration bids by terrorists across the border is likely to be raised by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his meeting with Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif in New York. Sources said a report on the incident has been sent by the home ministry to officials of the Prime Ministers Office.
“The Prime Minister has been apprised of the developments,” an official said.
The detailed report mentioning as to how three terrorists entered India from across the border, their strike in a police station and subsequently in an Army camp, the arms and ammunition carried by them and casualties has reportedly been sent to Washington where the Prime Minister is currently on a visit.
After attending a Summit meeting with President Barack Obama in Washington, the Prime Minister will be travelling to New York where he would address the UN General Assembly on Saturday. He is expected to meet his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif on September 29.
The three terrorists, dressed in army fatigues, had stormed a police station and then an Army camp in Jammu region killing 10 people including an Army officer in twin “fidayeen” attacks after they sneaked in from across the border on Thursday.
The MHA, meanwhile, is inquiring into how the terrorists had managed to sneak in from across the International Border (IB) which is manned by the Central security forces. “An enquiry will be done to see if there were any lapses and how they can be fixed,” an official said.
MHA officials said the terrorists are believed to have sneaked in from the riverine stretch of river Bain where it is not possible to erect a fence. According to the reports received by the MHA, no fencing around the Hiranagar sector has been found sniped which suggests the terrorists may have crossed over from the riverine area. The eye witnesses account reveal that the Urdu-speaking terrorists had come from PoK or Pakistan and efforts are udnerway to confirm their identity. The terroirsts were also unfamiliar with the Jammu region which again shows that they did not belong to any local outfit, an official said.
