PM N-E package fails to take off
The growing interest of China in the Northeast militancy and deployment of its Army along the international border has become a major area of concern for the home ministry, which is extremely worried about poor progress of its proposed strategic infrastructure projects in the frontier state of Arunachal Pradesh.
Disclosing that Prime Minister’s ambitious `1,452-crore financial package, announced in February 2008 for the infrastructure development in the frontier state has failed to take off, authoritative security sources in the home ministry regretted that all the strategic infrastructure projects are at the stage of survey only.
Pointing out that Prime Minister had proposed to establish rail, road and air connectivity up to the international border, security sources admitted, “We are lagging far behind China in fortifying our territory for security point of view.”
Referring that several deadlines were set to expedite the infrastructure projects in the frontier state, security sources said that it has been extended time and again.
