PM for probity in public life
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has called for probity in public life saying that people are hurt when politicians and public servants deviate from integrity in personal action and behaviour.
The PM, who was speaking to a group of IAS probationers on Thursday also said, “When, in public life politicians or public servants depart from the code of conduct which lays emphasis on maximum possible integrity in personal action and behaviour, then you are hurting those very people who are part of the suffering humanity of our country.”
He further said, “We cannot allow corruption in public services” while reminding the probationers that India remains a country where millions and millions of people go hungry.”
As for the issues of terrorism, communal tensions and the naxalite problem, the PM told the probationers that it was their duty to learn what were the factors which cause people to go astray and to bring the misguided elements back to mainstream thinking.
The Prime Minister said law and order must be administered effectively and root causes of social and economic discontent must be found out while addressing the problems of the disadvantaged sections.
