PM takes stock of security situation
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday took stock of the country’s overall security scenario with senior ministers and top officials.
At a meeting of the National Security Council, Dr Singh is believed to have discussed the security scenario in the country with the members of the body in view of the increasing terror attacks in neighbouring Pakistan. According to sources Dr Singh was briefed on the overall security measures and the general preparedness of the security agencies as well as defence forces.
The 90-minutes security review meeting was attended by finance minister Pranab Mukherjee, home minister P. Chidambram and defence minister A.K. Antony. Others who were present in the meeting included National Security Adviser Shivshankar Menon, home secretary G.K. Pillai, three service chiefs, and heads of Research and Analysis Wing (RA&W) and Intelligence Bureau (IB).
“Recent terror attacks in Pakistan is a matter of concern for India. After terror attack on Mehran naval base in Pakistan, security of all coastal facilities and vital installations is also being reviewed by Indian security agencies,” sources said.

Security has already been beefed up along the western coastal line, with strong security cordon around the Bhabha Atomic Research and Energy Centre at Tarapur. Patrolling by the coastal guards, Indian Navy and customs has already been intensified, sources added.
