Police hunt for ‘psycho’ killer near Tamil Nadu border
People living in about a dozen villages near the Nellore-Chittoor-Tamil Nadu border, 70 km from here, are tense since the early hours of Friday.
Over 200 policemen from Gudur, Sullurpeta and Tada, in Nellore district and Varadaiahpalem and Satyavedu mandals of Chittoor district searched for the psycho in the forest, where he disappeared after brutally killing three passengers in an RTC bus near Tada early on Thursday.
Forest beat officer (FBO) Y. Sankarappa, saw a man in a red shirt and black trousers, walking along the forest road that leads deep inside the woods. He recollected the incident of the psycho only after crossing him.
Though he immediately turned back, he found the stranger disappearing into the woods. The FBO retreated as he feared that he might be attacked. He informed police and his higher officials late in the evening about the stranger.
By the time policemen of the two districts teamed up, it was late in the night. The manhunt resumed on Friday morning.
When sniffer dogs were pressed into action, they ran towards the Bathalavalam location, giving credence to the FBO's version.
No poison on weapon used for killing: Doc
The accused in the cold-blooded murder of three RTC passengers used a double-edged weapon to kill the victims. The weapon was so strong and sharp that one of the victims, Utapala Niranjan, 36, died instantly.
Another victim, Korrapati Rambabu, 50, died due to damage caused to the left subclavian vessels by the weapon. The third victim, Ajay Biswas, died due to a stab injury to the trachea which is a tube that connects the pharynx or larynx to the lungs, allowing the passage of air, according to Dr B. Venkata Ramanaiah, medical officer, Government Hospital in Sullurpeta.
Speaking to this newspaper Dr Ramanaiah, who was one of the doctors who conducted the post-mortem, rejected rumours of poison being applied to the weapon or use of chloroform to silence the victims before stabbing them.
