Police medals for 755 for gallantry

A total of 755 police and paramilitary personnel, including 18 of whom were killed while performing their duties, have been awarded police medals on the occasion of the Republic Day this year.

The President’s Police Medals for gallantry will be given to 11 personnel, police medals for gallantry to 129, and President’s Police Medals for distinguished service to 82 personnel. The police medals for meritorious service would be given to 533 personnel.
Those who have been chosen for the President’s Police Medal for gallantry include inspector general of Chhattisgarh police Mukesh Gupta, inspector Gurjeet Singh Thakur and assistant sub-inspector Kirit Singh from the Naxal affected state.
From West Bengal, the awardees include late Rabi Lochan Mitra, a police inspector.

Jan. 25: The chief security officer of the Union home ministry, Dushyant Singh, has been awarded with the police medal for meritorious service.
During his career, the police officer performed various duties, including anti-insurgency operations in Nagaland, law and order duties during GNLF agitation in Darjeeling and communal violence in Ahmedabad and Delhi.
He was awarded police medal for gallantry for anti-dacoity operations at Sasaram in Bihar in 1987.
In September 1991, Mr Singh was posted as deputy chief security officer in the MHA and subsequently promoted as chief security officer
