Police: Naxal camps sexually exploited tribals
Recent seizure of a huge haul of medicines including pregnancy-test kits and sexual stimulants in a Naxal camp in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district has once again established charges of sexual exploitation of tribal women by Maoist leaders, the police said.
Last week, security forces recovered large quantities of medicines and medical equipments including pregnancy-test kits of brand “I-Can”, and “Power Gold” capsules, a sexual stimulant drug, while raiding a Naxal camp in the forested village of Dorakhalari under Amabeda police station in Kanker district in north Bastar region.
The raid by forces had led to an encounter with ultras. However, the rebels fled the camp after a fierce gun fight that last nearly 3 hours. Later, the police made huge haul of explosives, detonators and medicines in the rebel camp.
“Around 30-40 ultras including a dozen women cadres were present in the camp. We have recovered six Power Gold capsules and a large number of empty strips of the drug, besides some pregnancy-test kits”, Kanker district superintendent of police Rajendra Narayan Das told this newspaper on Saturday.
It appears, a platoon of armed rebels along with local dalam members (armed rebel militias) were taking shelter in the camp for training purpose.
“The seizure of aphrodisiac drug in such a large number indicates that the camp was also being used as sexual pleasure centre by Maoists”, he said.
“Many surrendered women Maoists have earlier made confessions before police that they were forced to desert the cadre due to their sexual exploitations by the senior Maoist leaders. The seizure of sex enhancement drugs in the Naxal camp has once again established charges of sexual exploitation of tribal women made against Maoist leaders for long”, additional general of police (Naxal operation) R.K.Vij said.
