Police raid bar in Pune, 300 detained for consuming illegal liquor
Festivities at a party turned sour early on Sunday morning as police raided a bar cum restaurant and detained almost 300 guests for consuming illegal alcohol.
According to police officials, the owner of the bar had only taken permission for a day to sell liquor. As the permission expired on Saturday midnight, police officials raided the restaurant, only to find excessive music and consumption of alcohol.
Liquor worth Rs. 9,80,000 was also seized, police officials stated.
"The liquor placed in this restaurant for sale was given permission for only one day, but post midnight when we conducted a raid, we saw large quantities of liquor was still in possession and its sale was going on. Hence, they have been charged under the prohibition act 65 E, 81, 83 and under BP (Bombay police) act 33 WN," Sanjiv Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police, said.
Of the 300 detained guests, 150 were girls and 150 boys.
Some of the girls exiting the bar complained to the mediapersons that police officials had physically assaulted some of the guests.
