Policemen join youth in protest
As the anger against the police and other security forces has increased with the unrelenting bloodshed in the Kashmir Valley, reports pouring in here from different parts of the restive region suggest that at least local policemen operating from area police stations and posts are trying to buy peace with the home populations.
In one such incident, the policemen placed at the Sher Bagh police station in southern Anantnag district on Sunday not only promised local residents that they would not take part in the tough campaign launched against the protesters, but late in the evening joined the locality youth in chanting pro-freedom slogans in the open.
Senior police officials here have indicated that disciplinary action against the involved cops will be initiated on completion of a departmental inquiry being held furtively.
Over the past four days, irate mobs have not only targeted several police stations and camps especially that of counterinsurgency Special Operations Group (SOG) which has been at the centre of a controversy for its notorious deeds, reports say that police officials or their families are being threatened in their respective areas and in a few cases such threats have been executed as well.
On Monday, the house of a policeman Javed Ahmed Mir was demolished by angry protesters at Rakhi Litterin northern district of Bandipore.
