Political slur-fest turns mucky
New Delhi: The war of words after Independence day speeches by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Gujarat Chief Minister has turned worse by each passing day.
Do homework before taking on Congress in media debate: Narendra Modi
The slur fight was ignited by Modi’s Saas-bahu aur damaad quip against Congress president Sonia Gandhi and in reply external affairs minister Salman Khurshid jumped into the battle terming the saffron poster-boy a khalnayak (villain) and frog. A demeaning reply came from BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi who likened Khurshid with a cockroach.
Union minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was also not far behind and in a casteist remark he compared Modi with Gangu Teli.
Left red-faced by Modi and Lekhi’s comment, the BJP’s top brass on Saturday asked the party’s spokespersons and media cell office bearers from across the states to be more aggressive in taking on Congress, but maintain decency and decorum while countering the opposition through television debates and press interactions.
The party, however, remained critical about Azad and said he “not just insulted Modi by calling him Gangu Teli, but also insulted the community to which he belongs.
”The party demanded an apology from the Union minister. Meanwhile, in reaction to Lekhi’s remark, Khurshid shot back asking, “Do you think I look like a cockroach?”
