Politico flaunts Pranab Mukherjee kinship

The intelligence agencies in the state and Centre are excited about a meeting recently organised by M Natarajan, husband of Jayalalithaa’s estranged friend Sasikala, where he introduced one Krishna Mohanji, who he claimed was the brother-in-law of Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Not just that, Mr Natarajan also boasted that Tamil Nadu would rumble if he chose to parade all his influential friends from across the country.

The Krishna Mohanji introduction happened on January 17 during the three-day event that Mr Natarajan holds in native Thanjavur every January to coincide with the Pongal celebrations.

The police and political observers keenly observed this year’s event to know how the Sasikala family was reacting to the banishment from the ruling party, but Mr Natarajan chose to flaunt his ‘national’ connections rather than refer to the Poes Garden tragedy.

Mr Natarajan also did some Congress-bashing on the Mullaiperiyar dam issue and urged the DMK to get out of the UPA. Not just that. He also flaunted his pro-LTTE leanings. .

The intelligence agencies were aghast that the controversial Natarajan paraded a Krishna Mohanji claiming he was the brother-in-law of the influential finance minister.

“We have sent the photograph to Kolkata and Delhi to verify this claim. Our preliminary finding is that the Union minister does not have any such brother-in-law.

It is likely that this Krishna Mohanji is a distant relative of the minister and Mr Natarajan used him to claim he has influence”, an officer said.

As for Krishna Mohanji, it did not appear he was aware of the political significance of his presence at the Thanjavur function.

He spoke briefly on the greatness of Tamil culture and its role in preserving national unity. All attempts to contact Mr Natarajan did not succeed.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
