In a poll first, Jaya slams Cong, rules out coalition
Launching her first salvo against the Congress in her poll campaign, AIADMK supremo Ms Jayalalithaa on Saturday said the UPA government at the Centre “deserved to be thrown out” as it was “inept, ineffectual and weak”, and completely unconcerned at the people’s problems.
“The government under a puppet Prime Minister is out of touch with the problems of the common people and deserves to be thrown out. A new government has to take charge with a strong PM at the helm,” Ms Jayalalithaa said in an interview to TV channel while campaigning at Salem.
Was she contemplating launching a third front? “I would like to take one thing at a time. First let me get through with these (Assembly) elections and then we will talk about forming the government at the Centre,” the AIADMK chief replied.
Asked if there was any possibility of post-poll rea-lignments, she replied, “I don’t think there is any such possibility. I am quite sure the AIADMK will get comfortable majority and we will form the government.” To a specific question whether the Congress would remain a foe or turn into a friend, she said, “I cannot say anything now; my aim is to defeat the DMK.” She said people saw the DMK front as alliance between corrupt entities. The exit of Vaiko’s MDMK would not hurt her camp, she insisted.
