Polls unlikely, AICC to ask Sonia to pick CWC
New Delhi, Oct. 31: The current mood within the Congress is against the holding of any elections to the Congress Working Committee.
Party delegates coming to New Delhi for the one-day All-India Congress Committee meeting here on Tuesday, November 2, are likely to demand that the Congress president, Mrs Sonia Gandhi, be formally authorised to nominate members to the Central Working Committee, the party’s highest decision-making body.
With just 48 hours to go for the All-India Congress Committee meeting, there is no sign of interest in party circles in holding of elections to the 12-member Central Working Committee, with no senior leader trying to show his or her strength or popularity through elections. Earlier, those who had shown such signs were aspirants for the prime ministership or at least in the party president’s post.
