Post Muslim policemen in minority areas, Centre tells States
Accepting a key recommendation of the Sachar Committee, the Centre has asked the states to appoint at least one Muslim officer in police stations in areas having high concentration of Muslims.
In a communication to chief secretaries of all states, Union home secretary R.K. Singh asked them to send a status report on it by the end of June.
The missive was sent after the home ministry found that many states have not yet fully implemented one of the key recommendations of the Sachar Committee report.
The committee, constituted in 2005 to prepare a report on the social, economic and educational status of Muslims, had, in its report in November 2006, made the recommendation as an initiative to build confidence among the community.
