Posters for ‘missing Sidhu’ in Amritsar

The city of Amritsar has been donned with “missing” posters of cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu. Residents of the city were taken by surprise when they woke up to “Missing Sidhu” posters pasted in the city.

The posters had been put all over the city, on walls, buses and trains, by little-known NGO Amritsar Sangrash Samiti.
Alleging that the BJP leader and former India cricketer had been “missing” from the area for a long time, a poster states that, “Sidhu had made tall promises to the people of his constituency about making Amritsar like Paris, but has betrayed them”.
The posters written in Hindi with Mr Sidhu’s pictures point out that the people feel cheated as Sidhu has not shown his face to them after getting elected as an MP and had been absent from the constituency, minting money from the TV programmes rather than addressing the people’s problems.
The NGO has also announced an award of `2 lakhs for anybody who would provide information regarding the parliamentarian. “Find Sidhu, bring him here before us and get reward of `2 lakhs,” the poster reads.
The posters further read that Mr Sidhu had promised that the city roads will be made smooth like the cheeks of Preity Zinta and the holy city would look like Paris but the city is writhing for even the basic amenities. It mentions that Mr Sidhu had sworn that he would work for the public good but he has done nothing for the city and his wife now is also creating unnecessary problems for the development of the city by raking non-issues.
The posters also posed a question to the Akalis (Tarazu Wale — the election symbol of SAD-B) and BJP (Phool wale — Lotus the symbol of the BJP) that they should answer why they sought votes for Mr Sidhu when they knew that he would do nothing for the public.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
