Power protest turns violent, legislator hurt
Karimnagar: Karimnagar MLA Gangula Kamalakar fractured his leg during a protest against power tariff hike proposal at the AP Transco superintending engineer (SE) office here on Tuesday.
TD activists led by party district unit president Ch. Vijaya Ramana Rao, laid a siege to SE office demanding withdrawal of proposal to increase power charges. A large number of activists from across the district took part in the agitation, which turned violent with agitators hurling stones at the office and damaging furniture.
During the melee, Mr Kamalakar lost balance and fell. The TD workers rushed him to a private hospital, where doctors said he fractured his at ankle. TD MLAs Suddala Devaiah and incharges of Assembly constituencies in the district took part in the agitation. During the five-hour siege, party district unit convenor and Peddapalli MLA Ch. Vijaya Ramana Rao warned of intensifying agitation if the government did not withdrew the proposal.
Meanwhile, YSRC activists led by Adi Srinivas, Putta Madhu and CPI workers attempted to lay a siege to AP Transco SE office. In view of the agitations, police provided security at the SE office.
