Pranab calls Telangana meet
Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee has called a meeting of all party MPs from Telangana on Wednesday. Sources said that the prime objective of the meeting will be to once again warn the MPs not to comment on the Telangana issue till the party high command takes a decision about it.
The meeting assumes significance as it will be held a day before the Justice Srikrishna Committee report is made public. Sources said that both chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and PCC chief D. Srinivas have told party leaders in New Delhi to convince the Telangana MPs to keep mum about the issue as they have been issuing statements despite receiving clear-cut instructions not to speak on the subject.
Congress leaders in the Centre are reportedly annoyed about these statements by Telangana party leaders, particularly those of CWC member, Dr K. Kesava Rao, who had threatened to resign from his post.
Mr Srinivas will also take part in the meeting called by the finance minister, informed party sources. It is, however, not clear whether Mr Reddy will be asked to be present.
“We don’t know for what purpose the meeting is called tomorrow, but we are going,” Karimnagar MP and convenor of AP Congress MPs, Ponnam Prabhakar told this newspaper on Tuesday evening.
