Pranab criticises BJP, CPM
Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Friday lashed out against the BJP and the CPI(M) for trying to destabilise the elected government by cashing in on the civil society’s movement over the Lokpal bill issue.
“When Anna Hazare was sitting on fast, the CPI(M) and the BJP supported him. They thought that this was a way to attack the Congress but in reality this was an attack on parliamentary democracy,” he added.
Mr Mukherjee was addressing a Congress rally in the city.
The veteran Congress leader said that criticism of any wrongdoing of a government was welcome but some people were trying to dictate terms to an elected government. He termed it as “the tyranny of the unelected.”
Taking potshots at the BJP, Mr Mukherjee said that Assembly elections were recently held in five states and the BJP could win only five seats in one state: Assam. “They got no seat in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and in West Bengal. Now the party is trying to hog the limelight by supporting babas.”
He said that the communists had been trying to destroy the Constitution for long but were never successful.
“So now they have sought refuge in Anna Hazare and Ramdev,” he added.
Scoffing at fasts, he said that black money could be recovered through fasting. “Black money is not a problem only for India but also for many big countries like the US and France,” he added. Union law minister Veerappa Moily said that the government was committed on bringing Lokpal bill.
