Pranab: Land acquisition is inevitable
Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Sunday said that there were some areas where land acquisition was “inevitable”. “Roads can only be built on land. So completion of road development projects depend on land acquisition only,” Mr Mukherjee said. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for the four-laning of the National Highway 34 from Berhampore in Murshidabad district to Dalkhola in North Dinajpur district, at Mathurapur in Murshidabad.

Oct. 31: Mangesh Narkar, the first ever criminal to be booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Criminal Activities (MCOCA), while serving a prison sentence, was killed in an encounter by crime branch officers at Chembur early on Sunday morning. Narkar had around 18 cases of murder and extortion against him and was serving a life sentence in Nashik jail. However, on October 6, he had escaped while being transported to Taloja jail.
The police laid a trap to catch Narkar after receiving a tip-off that he would be meeting his associates.
