Prashobh jumped overboard: SIT
The charge of murder bid on M V Prabhu Daya second officer, Prashobh Sugathan, following the ship’s collision with a fishing boat off Alappuzha on March 1, has been found to be false.
According to the SIT leader, P. V. Baby, Prashobh, smitten by remorse over the death of five boat crew, had jumped overboard and was rescued by Lankan fishermen.
Sugathan had told the media that his son had been blind-folded and thrown overboard following the collision However, Mr Baby told Deccan Chronicle that there was no substance in Mr Sugathan’s charge.
During the interrogation, Prashobh had confessed to no one else’s involvement in the incident, said Baby.
The team wrapped up its probe after questioning the shipmates, Prasobh and co-accused, Mayur Virendrakumar, at DySP office on Tuesday.
The police would return Virendrakukmar to judicial custody. He had been in extended police custody for interrogation. Prashob was sent to police custody by the court on Monday.
