Dec. 21: The police-politician-drug mafia nexus that had plagued the ruling coalition in Goa earlier this year came back to haunt it after a police officer alleged to having links with the state’s drug mafia was awarded the Chief Minister’s gold medal on Goa Liberation Day.
The Opposition BJP on Tuesday said that awarding deputy superintendent of police Mr Chandrakant Salgaonkar with the CM’s gold medal was proof enough that the government was hand in glove with drug dealers and police officials who were in their payroll.
Speaking to reporters, BJP general-secretary Mr Govind Parvatkar said, “It is a shame that the chief minister’s police gold medal for meritorious work has been given to someone who has been helping the drug mafia.”
