Prez Rule a Cong ploy: BJP, JMM
The Union Cabinet’s decision on Tuesday to impose President’s Rule in Jharkhand came as a shock to both the BJP and the JMM in Jharkhand, making the two parties in Shibu Soren’s doomed coalition government condemn the decision and blame the Congress for the crisis.
Despite their failures to resolve mutual differences during a month-long political turmoil, the two parties said President’s Rule was still not an option for Jharkhand and that the move would stifle development and welfare programmes in the state. They were also quick in finding a scapegoat in the Congress for the political crisis that essentially originated from their own endless bickering and one-upmanship games.
“President’s Rule was unnecessary. It is no option in a democracy. Our party will monitor all the activities taking place under President’s Rule,” said former chief minister and BJP national general secretary Arjun Munda, who was a frontrunner for the chief minister’s post in the event of Soren’s promised resignation.
