Prez unveils bihar agri revamp plan
President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday unveiled the Bihar government’s ambitious, comprehensive five-year plan to revamp the state’s agriculture sector with a proposed investment of `1.52 lakh crore to achieve what chief minister Nitish Kumar calls a “rainbow revolution” in agriculture.
“Benefits of the first green revolution, introduced by Mr Surbramanyam under the stewardship of then Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi, remained confined mostly to north-western states, failing to flow to the Gangetic Valley. There is now the need for a second green revolution in the country, and we shall have to extend it to eastern India, where Bihar has to be the first destination,” said Mr Pranab Mukherjee, praising Bihar chief minister, Mr Nitish Kumar, efforts to revolutionise the state’s agriculture.
