Principal watches porn at office in Kerala, quits

Dr. R Gireeshan, principal of the Corporative Medical College in Kalamassery, quit after he was allegedly caught by students while watching porn on his office computer.

The resignation came on Wednesday after students made a complaint to college medical director Dr. Raju Antony. Police took Gireeshan’s computer into custody to track the history of the web sites he had accessed. The medical college authorities also formed a three-member council to probe the matter.

According to police, rumours about Gireeshan watching porn web sites on his official computer had been taking the rounds for a while. “It appears several students had seen him watching porn as they peeped through the office window.

“On Tuesday, two female students saw him browsing such sites when they entered his room. His attempt to quickly close the window and turn off the monitor did not succeed,” police said.

Following the incident, students and staff of the college asked students union chairman Sreeshyam to file a complaint before Antony. The medical director, in turn, sought the principal’s explanation.

On Wednesday morning, a group of Youth Congress activists staged a protest inside the medical college campus demanding resignation of the principal.

Kalamassery municipal chairperson Jamal Manakkadan and medical advisor Dr PGR Pillai also intervened, seeking the explanation of principal and the medical college. Dr. Gireeshan gave the resignation letter to the director by noon on Wednesday.

The council formed to probe the incident includes Dr. PGR Pillai, Dr. Raju Antony and college professor Dr. Indira Murali.
