Priyanka on campaign trail
On the campaign trail canvassing for her party nominees, star campaigner Priyanka Gandhi on Friday went ahead and invited a Samajwadi party candidate to join the Congress.
During her road show this morning, Priyanka came face to face with SP nominee from Sadar seat R.P. Yadav, who on her inquiry introduced himself as a farmer's son and asked her to bless him.
"She told me aap wahan kya pade ho, Congress mein aa jao... apka samman hoga" (she asked me to come to the Congress, I will be honoured), Yadav said.
Yadav said that he told her that he was Mulayam's soldier and that he was going to win the seat. Priyanka held road shows, meetings and talked to the electorate of Harchandpur segment asking about their well being and seeking their support.
Walking down a long stretch, she also mingled with the crowd gathered outside local the Samajwadi Party office. Incidentally, Priyanka's children Rehan and Miraya who had on Thursday hogged the limelight were not seen at the road show.
Addressing an election meeting at Johwa Sarki area in Harchandpur assembly segment, Priyanka said that during the BSP and SP governments, goondas and corrupt people were having a field day in Uttar Pradesh.
These parties have tried to create differences in society in the name of caste and religion for power, she said.
Asserting that people have been tolerating crime in the state since the past 22 years, she appealed to the people to think about the future of their children and vote for it.
Referring to the central schemes, Priyanka alleged that funds meant for wefare works have been misused and schemes were not properly implemented.
Stating that the wheel of development has come to a halt here, Priyanka said that given a chance Congress would ensure speedy development to turn the state into 'uttam pradesh'.
Priyanka reminded the voters that these elections are not Sonia and Rahul Gandhi's elections but that of all the people.
