Probe `58Kcr scams in Northeast, says BJP
Alleging that scandals and scams to the tune of `58,000 crores had taken place in the Northeast, the BJP on Saturday demanded a time-bound probe into it.
Attacking Congress president Sonia Gandhi, BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said: “Sonia Gandhi had made tall promises against corruption. They are so hollow that not only are the Central leaders corrupt, even the chief ministers of Congress-ruled states are making money.”
Releasing a report of the fact-finding team of his party on the various scams that have taken place in the Northeast, Mr Gadkari said, “It is unfortunate that all the scandals and scams are taking place in Congress-ruled states.” The report says that if the level of corruption in the region is quantified, it could be to the tune of `58,000 crores.
Mr Gadkari further said that it was the responsibility of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to check corruption in the Northeast as he represented the region.
Declaring “our demand is that government should conduct a time-bound probe into the loot in the Northeast by Congress governments,” he added that he himself will lead a delegation to the President to submit the report that was prepared using the Right to Information Act.
Leaders of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley will meet Dr Manmohan Singh in connection with the scam, he further added.
Demanding the setting up of special courts to deal with the menace of corruption in the region to facilitate speedy disposal of cases, the BJP leader said that he would discuss the upcoming CAG reports on the Northeast with party leader and chairman of PAC Murli Manohar Joshi.
He said, “I would request him to take up the reports in PAC and issue necessary instructions to the government.”
