Probe begins into AI flight emergency landing

Thiruvananthapuram: An inquiry into the emergency landing of a Saudi Arabia-bound Air India flight at the international airport here on Wednesday night has commenced, an official said on Thursday.

The Dammam-bound AI 915 flight of the national carrier took off at 6 p.m on Wednesday. But it returned to the airport 40 minutes later after the captain got a warning about a snag in the aircraft's doors.

Air India station manager K D Sivanath told IANS that officials of the Director General of Civil Aviation have arrived for inquiry.

"Our engineers have started investigations. The inquiry is a routine thing, whenever incidents like this happen," said Sivanath.

The A-330 aircraft had 82 passengers onboard, including two infants. It reportedly made a hard landing, due to which it was stuck in the runway for four hours. The airport remained closed during this interval.

"Stranded passengers will be flown tomorrow morning," Sivanath said.
