Prosecution sanctioned against 555 officials in 2007-09
The Centre has sanctioned prosecution against 555 officials against whom recommendations were received from the Central Vigilance Commission, Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
Acting on the advice of the Commission, the government also imposed major penalty in 2,787 cases while in 3,284 minor penalty was slapped on officials during 2007-09.
The CBI registered nearly 2,793 cases under the Prevention of Corruption Cases during 2007-10 (till October 31, 2010) while in 1,404 cases against government servants, it has recommended departmental action, Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy said in a written reply.
He said though there is a three-month time limit for grant of sanction for prosecution, sometimes there is delay in giving permission within the prescribed time.
"The delay is often caused due to detailed analysis of available evidence, consultation with CVC, state governments and other agencies and sometimes non-availability of relevant documentary evidence.
The CVC, however, reviews cases from time to time where there is unusual delay," he said. "The Department of Personnel and Training also monitors progress of such cases through the Annual Action Plan on anti-corruption measures," he said.
