Protests erupt in Andhra, Cong ministers vent ire
Several ministers from Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema remonstrated Wednesday with chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy over the creation of a Telangana state as protests erupted in the non-Telangana regions against the contentious move.
Several ministers from non-Telangana region, who had threatened to resign if the Congress decided to carve a new state out of Andhra Pradesh, met Mr Reddy and at least one of them — Erasu Pratap Reddy — said he had “already submitted” his resignation to the party.
A group of ministers including T.G. Venkatesh, Erasu Pratap Reddy, Ganta Srinivas and Pitani Satyanarayana met the CM on Wednesday afternoon and discussed the fallout of the party’s decision.
“Nothing has happened yet. Only the Congress has announced its decision. We are still hopeful that the process will not go through,” one of them said.
Since Tuesday night, a dozen Congress MLAs from Andhra-Rayalaseema claimed to have resigned their seats, but legislature sources did not confirm any such letters being received.
