‘Psycho killer’ in Bihar held for killing 3 women
A disturbed young man described as a “psychopathic killer” of women for allegedly killing three Patna women in the span of a month and brutally attacking over a dozen women in the Bihar capital in the past few months could not hide from the police for long.
Mukesh Thakur, 22, who had earned the scary nickname of “stoneman” for allegedly killing the women by crushing their heads with bricks, was finally arrested in Patna’s Phulwarisharif area along with two of his suspected accomplices on Sunday. Thakur’s single-minded fascination with women as his victims led the police to describe him as a psychopathic killer with some deep hatred for women.
“He harboured a particularly deep-seated hatred for women and violently killed them after entering their houses and looting valuables like cash and jewellery,” said Patna senior superintendent of police Amrit Raj after the three arrests were made.
Thakur would get drunk and watch the night shows at the movie halls in Patna before going out to kill women, said investigators who zeroed in on him after a fortnight’s intensive search by three special teams. His modus operandi of entering the women’s homes from the terrace led the police to the appeal that Patna residents must close their terrace doors at night. The police tracked him down by using description of his features given by one woman who remained alive after being attacked by him.
A former saloon worker, Thakur took to robbing with the help of his three friends, two of whom were arrested before his arrest. His parents in a Patna district village had driven him out some years ago following his increasingly wayward behaviour, the police said.
